Brands Hatch Indy 17 Nov 2019 KA 500 race Season Finale

Wil was looking forward to taking part in The 500K race in The Ford KA series. 8 hours of driving with the 3 drivers in our team . Qualifying was scheduled for the evening so in the dark. The track looked great with all the cars having the night race lights on, a full flash of neon.

Our car looked like it was ready for Christmas with flashing coloured lights all over it. We qualified a reputable 15th out of 35 plus cars. The race was to take place over all of Sunday.

10am start. Wil started the race! He was getting into his normal consistent driving doing 64sec laps like a metronome. In the first hour Wil was steadily going up the grid when he was punted off at Surtees by a back marker. This put him into a spin but he managed to keep the car going and joined back on. The momentum was lost and it took Wil a few laps to pick off the cars that had passed him. Wil’s steady and consistent lapping saw him in the lead. Wil had been driving for 2 hours and 53 minutes and was called in for his driver change and re- fuelling.

Rob Burnham our 2nd driver took over and joined the race in 14th position. Rob steadily making his way up to 8th track limit infringements saw him having to take a drive through penalty and then a 1 minute stop and go. After Rob’s stint Frank, the owner , took over. He again drove well keeping up the pace and going back up the field.

The end of the race was dramatic with cars going off left right and centre but a10th overall finish was a great result for our team.

The car with its lights was awarded The Dagenham Dustbin Trophy.

Great day and a very enjoyable ,long distance , affordable racing.
